QHNEWS--Though the ecological environment in part areas of Qinghai Province has been restored to some extent, the general degradation trend remains no change.
This is what known from the Qinghai Provincial Bureau of Environmental Protection.
It is learned that the environmental degradation around the Qinghai Lake is obvious , as the water level of the Qinghai Lake declined 10cm last year and the sand flowed into the lake was 950 tons , as much as that in the past years.
Ecological problems still exist, such as water loss and soil erosion in hilly areas in eastern Qinghai , grassland degradation at the Sources of the Three Rivers , desertification in Chaidam Basin ,Gonghe Basin( a county of Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture) and the headstream of the Yangtze River and the Yellow River, and natural disasters caused by human activities.
The grasslands in Qinghai Province, affected by nature and human activities, have degraded at different levels. 8.333 million hectares of grasslands have degraded above mediate level; 7.97 million hectares of grasslands have been mice-harassed, which accounts for one thirds of the whole provincial grasslands that can be utilized; and the insect pest-affected grasslands area is 2.229 million hectares.
