QHNEWS -- On July 3, our interviewing team staffed by Xining Evening Paper arrived at the two holy lakes scattering at the riverhead of the Yellow River, the Gyaring and the Ngoring.
The holyness of the Sanjiangyuan originates from the holyness of the mountains and rivers of the Sanjiangyuan itself. Standing on the Tsuwagatze Mountain surrounded by the Gyaring , the Ngoring ,and the Zhuorang Lake, we were shocked by the stunning sight : in the blue sky , the angelic white clouds were floating on the horizon; the green of the lakes made us dare not create any sound; looking afar, snow mountains looms with flocks and herds and herders tents at the foot, all those we got in sight formed a harmonious vision.
The ox-head monument, which is erected on top of the mountain, conveyed the deity of the horn ,with multicolor flags waving under the blue sky.
Placing ourselves in such endless nature, our soul were convulsed while we kept silence for a long time. Suddenly , two or three decades of Tibetan gazelles were agilely galloping over the right mountain ridge like a beam of levin. We held on our camaras and chased down the ridge till we grasped our consciousness. They tried to keep some distance with us by running a while and then halting. We weren¡¯t able to take any pictures of them untill we chased down to the foot of the mountain. When slowly climbed back to the mountain top, we were almost exhausted, alas, running on a 4,670-meter high mountain was really a harsh challenge for us.
We also saw a flock of spot-headed wild geese and yellow ducks on our way back along the lakeside. We were really moved by a glimpse of a spot-headed goose family: the father was leading the young while the mother was escorting behind, they swam orderly to the lake center , leaving a long way of water waves behind them.
We were much more surprised by another sight at the lakeside of the Ngoring: we encountered five or six wild dondeys, being afraid of disturbing them , we dared not get off our vehicle and could only take a shot by opening down the vehicle window. It was a pity that we didn¡¯t bring a long lens with us.
When travelling aroud the sister lake area, we saw some eagles standing on the shelves erected on a ecological balancing basis several years ago, looking aroud with their quick-witted eyes. We heard wolves¡¯ ululation along the eastern side of the Ngoring. However, instead of being terrified by the wolves¡¯ ululation,we were spiritually consoled , thinking that there were still living creatures here , like these wolves.
Coming back to Madoi County, locals told us that wild animal quantity in the sister lake area has much reduced since there were flocks of wild donkeys , Tibetan gazelles before , sometimes over a hundred of animals in a flock. Today we saw two or three decades of Tibetan gazelles still running on the mountain ridges , but what is the situation for tomorrow? We would see none of them , maybe.
The sister lakes Gyaring and the Ngoring are the two biggest lakes at the riverhead of the Yellow. Their total area exceeds 1,100 square kilometers, but the water level of them has declined over 2 meters during the past decade and the lakes' radius has shrinked nearly 30 meters. The degradation of the 60% grasslands in the lake area has got the local nomads into living crisis. Editem (July 6, 2005)
