QHNEWS -- With the country¡¯s implementation of the ecological protection and construction within the Sanjianyuan as a pivot, Guoluo Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture gives the masses active guidance to shift the production model from crude operation and to substitute the quantity-oriented livestock husbandry with the profit-oriented one, serving for both aspects of protecting the ecology in the Sanjiangyuan Area and leading the livestock husbandry into a golden time of development..
Upon the implementation of the ecological protection and construction within the Sanjiangyuan area, many herdsmen¡¯s livestock hunsbandry conception has been changing greatly. For example, when the ecology-based migration was carried out in 2004, quite a number of herdsmen even couldn¡¯t understand the decision imposed on them before they assented to move. Seeing the restored grasslands within enclosure, herdsmen have been getting to know the truth that the vast grassland needs rehabilitation as well, upon which they have begun to build animal sheds and plant fodder self-consciously. Thus , the amount of livestock has been lessened while the rate of being slaughtered has been raised.
In 2004 merely, a newly-recorded investment of 96.03 million Yuan was put into the project in Guoluo Prefecture. Totally 1,000 livestock sheds were built, 250,000 mu of grasslands was enclosed for restoration and 4.8938 million mu of grasslands was forbidden from grazing. In the meantime, more and more herdsmen turn to accept different breeding models , such as sheded-breeding and half-sheded breeding, species improving, drove restructuring and lamb breeding. Last year, average income of herdsmen in Guoluo reached 1,880 Yuan, up 11 per cent than that of the previous year.
In the first half of this year, Guoluo saw a good beginning in livestock husbandry: there have been 716,900 heads of newly-born young livestock , of which 631,400 heads survived, a surviving rate of 88.07 per cent and 6.06 percentages higher than that of the previous year. The added¨Cvalue from the livestock husbandry in Guoluo has reached 13.97 million Yuan, 2.3 per cent up , a new record. Editem (July 22, 2005)
