Qinghai Lake, the largest inland lake in china and the most enormous salt lake in the world, is multitudinous and ethereal, overwhelming and magnificent. It is a gigantic precious mirror bestowed by the nature.
Qinghai lake, called the west sea in ancient times, has other two names "the refreshing water" or " refreshing sea". in Tibetan languages, it is called"cuowenbo" with the meaning of greenish blue lake. in Mongolian languages, it is called" cucunuoer" which means the blue sea. as the neighboehood of Qinghai lake belonged to the grassland of Beihe, it was called " bei he qiang hai" at that time. In Han Dynasty, some people called it the wonderland of fairies. Since the Beiwei Dynasty, people began to name it qinghai lake.
The areas of Qinghai lake can cover 4456 square kilometers. The circumference of Qinghai lake amounts to more than 360 kilometers, which is twice as many as that of the famous Taihu Lake. The surface of the lake presents the shape of an ellipse, having the length of east to west over the that of north to south. At the first glance, it looks like a large white poplar leaf. The average depth of Qinghai Lake is about 19 meters, with the maximum depth of water reaching 28 meters and water capacity amounting to 105000000000 cubic meters. The altitude of the surface is 3260 meters, higher than two mount taishan. Due to its high elevation, the climate is very cool and temperate. The average of temperature within a day in heating and unbearable mid summer is merely 15℃,so it is an ideal summer resort.
Qinghai lake is located in the northeast part in the qinghai plateau with vast territories, broad grassland, numerous rivers, plentiful weeds, peaceful surroundings. The lake is ringed with four lofty mountains. The north is eminent Datong mountain; the east is imposing the Sun-moon mountain; the south is continouously extented South mountain; the west is extraordinary and outstanding Xiangpi mount. The altitudes of the four marvelous mountains reached 3600-5000 meters. Looking around, they look like four natural barriors kissing the high heaven, folding the qinghai lake in their arms. From the foot of the mountains extending to the bank of the lake, it is plain and enormous grassland. The qinghai lake, with mists and waves stretching far into the distance and the blue surface connected with the sky, resembles a grand emerald plate flatly beset between the high mountains and grassland, forming magnificent and impressive scene with the lake, mountains and grassland contrasting pleasingly with each other.
Qinghai lake has significantly different landscapes in different seasons. In Summer and Autumn, when the surrounding mountains and the vast grassland on the west bank become green, the scenery on the bank of Qinghai lake has gorgeous charm with green mountains and limpid water as well as bright and clear weather. The vast and undulating grassland seems to be covered with a thick and green cotton blanket. The multicolored wild flowers decorate the green cotton blanket like borcade. Numerous cows and sheep and stocky and strong horses embellish the grasslands like varicolored pearls. Large prim wheat fields ripple in the breeze;Yellow flowers of rape glitter with gold with aromatic fragnance spreading about. Qinghai lake, with its vast green water and the sky being of one hue, is dancing and sparkling gently like a bottle of luscious wine, pellucid and transparent. In cold winter, when the cold spell comes, the surrounding mountains and grasslands become to yellow, sometimes, they are covered with thick white snow. Every november, Qinghai lake began to ice over and the lake surface covered by the snow is like a vast enormous precious mirror, shining brightly in the sunshine and sparkling with brillint light.
