The construction of China's Qinghai-Tibet railway has reached its most difficult stage at altitudes of over 5,000 meters. The Yue Ling stretch in the Tanggula Mountains makes work extremely difficult, with a harsh weather, low levels of oxygen and a stretch of permafrost.

The construction of the Qinghai-Tibet railway is the longest project of its kind in the world, as well as being built at the highest altitude. When completed, the railway will run for almost 2,000 kilometres.
