Production Synopsis

In the northwest of the Tibetan Plateau, lies China’s biggest inland salt lake, the Qinghai Lake.

The Qinghai Lake is one of the most important wetlands in the world, with an elevation of about 3200 meters. It is a resting and breeding place for many birds. Therefore, the lake is also called: The Bird Kingdom. 189 bird species live here, among which 85 are water birds, with a total amount of more than 100 thousand birds. Every year after March, these creatures of nature come from faraway places in the Southern hemisphere, following the monsoon winds. They build up nests here, and give birth to their offspring, thus completing the cycle of life.

The film tracks the lives of Qinghai Lake's five most important migratory bird species, including box-headed goose, brown-headed gull, great black-headed gull, common cormorant and blank-necked crane. It tells many true and wonderful stories from the bird kingdom, by recording the bird's migration, nesting, breeding, brooding, fighting with natural enemies, and family life on both an individual and emotional level. At the same time, it records the survival and environment of these migratory birds, and their harmonious relationship with nature.
